Joshua Rohde, Music Director
Quincy Choral Society has named Joshua W. Rohde as its fifth music director effective September 2016. Mr. Rohde is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting at Boston University, where he teaches undergraduate conducting and
ear training at the university and works with the Marsh Chapel Choir and the Collegium Orchestra.
Additionally, he is starting work at Worcester Polytechnic Institute as the Director of Choral Activities and serves as the conducting intern with the Harvard Men’s Glee Club and manages the Harvard Choruses’ New Music Initiative. Previously he was the music director of the Wakefield Choral Society.
Mr. Rohde holds degrees from the University of Birmingham in England (Master of Music in Conducting), Boston University (Master of Sacred Music in Conducting), and the University of Minnesota (Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering). His conducting instructors have included Dr. Scott Allen Jarrett, Dr. Ann Howard Jones, Simon Halsey, and David Hoose.
Recent projects include conducting Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cantata No. 67, Halt im Gedächtnis Jesum Christ, and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, serving as musical director for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, and sharing the podium as one of the conductors for David Lang’s Crowd Out (world premiere for 1000 voices). In the spring Mr. Rohde led the Wakefield Choral Society in a varied program that included John Rutter’s “For the Beauty of the Earth,” Sumner Salter’s arrangement of “Danny Boy,” and Peter Knight’s arrangement of “You Are the New Day.” He has also prepared choruses to sing for conductors including Andris Nelsons, Harry Christophers, and John Storgårds. An accomplished cellist, Mr. Rohde has performed with several orchestras and regularly works as a continuo cellist, playing the choral and orchestral works of Bach. The Quincy Choral Society is excited to benefit from his broad expertise and and musicianship.

Gingy Grimes, graduate of Duke University, has served as accompanist for Quincy Choral Society since 1993. She is also Minister of Music at First Parish, Norwell, Music Director for the Pierce Players of the Milton Public Schools and Music Director
for Derby Summer Arts in Hingham. She is pianist for North Quincy and Quincy High Schools, for Hanscom Middle School in Bedford and for Temple Beth David, in Canton, during High Holy Days. She also teaches and accompanies at Milton Academy.
Locally, Ms. Grimes has performed with Brenda Kelly and Paul Frazer. She has been musical director for several theater productions including Sondheim's A Little Night Music and Mencken’s Little Shop of Horrors.
Her son, Brandon Grimes, is an actor/singer/composer in New York City and has been a soloist with QCS.; her husband, Francis Grimes plays viola professionally throughout New England. Ms. Grimes is thrilled to be associated with Quincy Choral Society!
